Fiction books read in the first half of 2024, part 1 of 3

It's time once again for my posts about the books, comics, audio books, and audio dramas that I've read or listened to over the last six months. I hope you like these covers, and you see something that you want to read. They'll be grouped loosely: fiction, non-fiction, comics, and audio dramas. No distinction is made between audio books and paper or digital books, and in some cases I just used the cover that I liked best (and could find a decent image of) rather than the one attached to the copy I actually read.

i like that they didn't make po's ex a woman bc that would make me think they were making the "i'm not gay i only like you" type of narrative which makes me so fucking mad every single time it happens

also po likes men and that's ok, i think everyone around him is okay with that fact and that's so important (to me!), it's not a big deal for anyone around him, he doesn't have to hide his attraction to men from anyone

that could still happen with yhame because we don't know about that part of him, and that's not and shouldn't be the focus here, but yeah, it could happen (i mean, he obviously can't announce it publicly but yk we know he will not have to hide this form the members bc he will have that talk with pepper)

but i'm glad po knows that he's attracted to men, and he knows that he feels ✨something✨ when he's around thame (and probably has a tiny little crush on him, but i still think thame start to like po first, obviously)

and thame knowing po for what? at the most a week and already offering to send him home if it's too late omg like BRO STAND TF UP PLS

i can't wait for both of them to start thinking that it could be more than just a work relationship (it already is but they don't know it), bc po will be so overthinking it and thame will be like yeah i like you and want to be with you bluntly

I know I really haven't told Melo's story (or any story) in its full true capacity to my liking, yet...(its been gameplay shenanigans up until this point)...

But the "OC Ask Game" thingy got me thinking...and I've been sorta, kinda melting (for no reason at all) at the fact that Marguerite still calls Melo "Suge" (which is his childhood (preteen-hood...?) nickname (She does it at random, like it'll come up in basic conversation because it's muscle memory at this point...but also what ties her to him (and makes her feel...a sense of comfort).

I honestly despise her for what she did to break up their marriage (And I LOVE Monet down) but knowing that she still calls him that (at random) and seeing the way he responds (in my mind) is the cutest thing. Its' harmless (in my mind...it may be calculated in hers *shrugs*)... Like, yes, he loves Monet down! And things are done with Marguerite...but the little things (like being called "Suge" gives him a sense of security/feels like home) and my heart melts a bit because of it...It catches him off guard EVERY time...but he doesn't show it. It's like this harmless thing that means nothing but everything at the same time...It just flows during conversation and he bypasses it (but also notices it...yet thinks nothing of it...if that makes sense)

Despite EVERYTHING that went down between the two, he still wants what's best for her, even though she is THEE biggest pain in the ass. He wants to see her happy. When I tell ya'll he loved the hell out of that girl...and was heartbroken by what she did to him and their marriage...but his heart still wants her to be happy because she is the mother of their children (and because he LOVED her). But He wants his kids to reap the benefits of being in a healthy, happy environment more than anything (and he knows that begins with him and her)

He TRULY wants them to have the happiest, safest upbringing possible and I really love that about him. 🥺 When Marguerite tries to make things about him and her, he redirects that focus on the children. Monet got her a good one, chile!

totally invested in the cat!mick au. it's almost as if... anon and you put catnip in it 👀

now i'm wondering... would cat!mick eventually allow the other guys to pet him? and how would each of them go about it? I have a feeling Tommy could get the loudest purrs out of Mick, and he'd be sooooo smug about the fact <3

hi robin!!! me and anon are summoning you like a cat pspspspsps lmaooo (but of course we didn’t put catnip in this au… no wayyyy 👀) but AUGHHH!!! great question (and segue into me yapping about this au) as always and im so willing to indulge in this so much <3333

now, i think mick would be very adverse to letting the guys pet him at first. you know how he is, unused to all the attention and not at all trusting these guys. he literally lets tommy and nikki know that pets aren’t allowed when he first joins the band. after getting to know them for a good portion of time, he’d probably change his mind a bit.

tommy would be the first one to get to pet mick… of course! maybe it’s an accidental thing, like they’re both together (alone) and they’re both a bit tired and tommy’s hand travels to micks hair and just…scritches a bit. and mick can’t even help the loud ass purr that comes out of him. they both pause and look at each other. tommy can’t help but grin so hard and micks automatically like “don’t tell a soul about this or i’ll rip up your favourite jacket!” tommy would only be encouraged to continue petting him and cuddling his favourite cat bestie (much to micks slight displeasure…but let’s be real he’s so ok with it he just doesn’t want tommy to think this is going to be daily occurrence!)

nikki would try…and occasionally fail to pet mick. if he ever finds out how tommy managed to tame “the beast,” he wants nothing more than to experience that calm, cuddly side of mick. mick would find it a bit harder to let nikki pet him only because he doesn’t trust him as much to be as gentle as tommy is. when nikki finds that out he tries to be a nice and gentle as ever to show mick he won’t hurt him. when mick finally does let him pet him, it’s a bit awkward at first. nikki’s almost too gentle and his light barely there touches only make mick laugh. once they get a bit more comfortable, nikki watches as mick lays on his lap and his tail flicks around, maybe hitting nikki in the face and make him laugh. (but their relationship is so hot and cold i’d like to imagine nikki makes the mistake of petting mick when he’s not in the best mood and getting scratched. micks tail would puff up slightly, like he’s about to pounce on nikki and bite him. that’s when nikki has to take a step back and let mick chill out a bit.)

and then there’s vince… he’s a dog person and he’s already been scratched by mick once. he’d be the most hesitant to pet mick and… well our resident black cat isn’t that sad to be denied pets by vince. that being said, vince does feel left out whenever nikki and tommy brag about getting to pet the old man. vince has never felt inclined to pet mick but now he’s on a mission to get closer to his little feline guitarist. micks already suspicious of him when vince tries to warm up to him. it would take vince a lot longer to get the old man to trust him, every time he tries to get close and pet him, mick just hisses and pushes him away. overtime, he finally does he get to pet him without any hostility. just right out hand on head. maybe he’d scratch behind micks hears and see his ears twitch and his pupils dilate. mick would let out a nice little purr and vince would literally squeal. like full on “EEEKKK!!!” mick would be so embarrassed, he’d hide his face and flick his tail at vince but it doesn’t matter cause now vince thinks mick is fully comfortable with him and now he gets unlimited pets.

of course this just immediately translates to the entire band piling together, getting to just pet and lavish all their attention on their little cat guitarist, all while mick wonders how he got here. AHHHHH this is soooooo cute omg i MUST think about polycrue with cat! Mick just cuddling with their little pet cat!! thank you for letting me yap about this more robin!!!!
